Vermont Overland is a marquee event on the east coast. This year it was tragically overshadowed by the death of Sule Kangangi. You can read about that elsewhere, but the short of it is that he crashed while he was riding solo. Nobody saw it, and nobody knows for sure what happened. In the end it doesn't mater how it happened; we lost a great one. Donate to Sule’s gofundme to support his wife and children.
One of the weird things about the power rankings and our stubbornly populist ranking system is that it ignores events with deep pro fields if the gravel normies don't show up. Conversely, It also heavily weights events with lots of gravel normies, even if the pros don't show up. Since our ranking is a list of top pros should we cater more to the events the pros choose? The correct answer is “no.” We think the pros should come to the races the gravel normies choose.
Vermont Overland doesn't ask you to ride 150 or 200 miles. It is only 59 miles, and the gravel normies are there for it in droves. There is only one distance and it had 1124 riders. That is almost as many riders as the Unbound 200! That means the winner of Vermont Overland gets almost as many points as the winner of Unbound. This is a true people's race.

After a 13th and 14th place finish at SBT and Gravel Worlds, Suli's team mate John Kariuki finally had his day, besting Gravel Power Ranking Leader Adam Roberge and jumping to 7th in the overall rankings. Despite everything else that happened, congratulations to John for a great win.

At RPI we count the Baked Potato. We know the Queen's Stage Race exists, and we love watching the pros compete in it, but the Baked potato is the peoples race. All told, RPI had 1087 participants, with 480 consuming the Baked Potato.

LDC and Adam Roberge took the week off to give someone else a chance at some points. Laura beat Ted. Lifetime Grand Prix leader Haley Smith Jumped up to 10th place. Also, we made a correction. We removed Bangma's tandem from the gravel worlds results and bumped everybody up. This Gave Peter Stetina enough points to jump ahead of Dutch mafia hitman Ivar Slik.

As we gaze into our crystal ball, we only see two more power rankings events in 2022. UNPAVED is showing 1020 registrants, and we believe Big Sugar sold 1500 entries. If you know of an event that has more than 750 riders, please let us know!
